2008 PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHERS OF CANADA
NATIONAL IMAGE COMPETITION

The 2008 National Image Competition of the Professional Photographers of Canada took
place this week during Passport 2008, the Annual Convention of the PPOC, in London, ON.

Chantal Benoit,
a professional photographer from Orleans, ON, had 3 images accepted and exhibited in the National Image Competition , judged prior to the Convention
by a panel of Master Photographers from across Canada. Acceptance in the competition earns the maker Merits toward several Degrees offered to PPOC members, including the prestigious Craftsman of Photographic Arts and Master of Photographic Arts. It is also an indication of the makers’ ability to produce above average images for their clientele.


The competition features entries from across Canada in many different classes, including Portraiture, Wedding, Commercial, Digital and Specialist categories. Members also are able to enter Salons in their respective regions of Canada annually, increasing their opportunities to earn recognition for their skills as a PPOC member.

The Annual Convention also presents seminars by an international assortment of the world's foremost photographers, as well as a Trade Show where suppliers display the latest in equipment and services to the Professional Photographic industry.

 

 

2007 Award photos
Local Photographer Recognized for her Achievements

Local photographer, Chantal Benoit, was recognized for her artistic achievements.

Chantal Benoit has been a professional Wedding and Portrait photographer in the Ottawa area for many years . She specializes in artistic weddings and unique boudoir photography performing her art with great taste and attention to detail.

Entering such a distinguished competition for the second time in her career, which began in 1993, 5 photographs were submitted to the category 'Portraits'. These photos joined 145 others to be judged by her peers in a day long competition.

At the End of the Rainbow (Portrait of a Woman)

Black Beauty, (Boudoir)

Lasting Embrace, (Wedding - Couple)

Stand by Me, (Portrait - Couple) and

A Room with a View (Portrait of a Bride)

were all accepted or screened in for adjudication by a jury of 5 Master Photographers.
She received unanimous accolades of Merit for 'At the end of the Rainbow', 'Lasting Embrace', 'Stand by me' and 'A Room with a view' and received an award of Excellence for her depiction of 'Black Beauty'. Competing in this event is a step towards obtaining the certification and recognition as Master Photographer which is being achieved at an outstanding pace.

Of special note, the photograph entitled "A ROOM WITH A VIEW" was also on the short list of candidates for an outstanding work in 2007 award in the wedding category and while "LASTING EMBRACE" was a finalist in the wedding couple category. These trophies are presented annually to the photographer having taken the portrait of the year awarded on March 19, 2007 at the Corporation's annual conference.
The cherry on the cake was that Chantal was nominated for photographer of year for 2007 and this after only 2 years of competition, quite an hounour and accomplishment.

Intimate Moment,

Were all accepted for adjudication by a jury of 5 Master Photographers.

She received unanimous accolades of Merit for ‘Natural Beauty’ and ‘Intimate Moment’ and came within a whisper of receiving an award of Excellence for her depiction of ‘Sensual Curves’. The judges recalled this particular photo before finally being awarded a Merit award. Competing in this year’s event is the first step towards obtaining the certification and recognition as Master Photographer.
